The estate

In brief

Bouqueyran does not escape a history marked by the Catholic Church: “Item fuit acquisita una decima a domino Tristando de la Isla quae est in parrochia de Molinis loco vocato Becoyran”. It was by this deed in Latin, cited by Abbé Baurein, that Pey Berland acquired the tithe of the district of “Becoyran en Moulix”.
Closer to our own time, M. Hugon, former justice of the peace of Castelnau, author of a notice on the commune, notes the presence of a noble house that belonged, in 1455, to Jean de Bouqueyran, squire. Bernique de Bouqueyran owned it from 1465 to 1475. The last lord of this fief was Jean de Genouillat. Near the château a chapel was built under the invocation of Saint Michael. During the Revolution, it was sold as national property and then demolished.
The lords of Bouqueyran have disappeared; only the nobility of its vineyard remains. At the beginning of the century, the owners of this growth harvested about forty barrels on the Bouqueyran rise and on the southern slope of the Puy de Minjon. The finesse and elegance of the wines had made it a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur.
In 1952, the estate was acquired by M. Pierre Martin, who was succeeded by Pierre-Jean-Marie Martin.
In 1995, the estate was entrusted to M. Philippe Porcheron, and it was with great satisfaction that we noted that this growth was once again being vinified in its own vat rooms and cellars. Château Bouqueyran then regained its former splendour and attracted notice in specialist guides (Hachette) and in competitions (1998, gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole; 2000, gold medal at the International Wine Challenge and silver medal at the Bordeaux competition; 2010, silver medal at the Concours Général Agricole, and 2012, silver medal at the Bordeaux competition).
These awards are the result of a real effort of maintenance and improvement of the vineyard. Here, as at the great estates, the wines are selected and then blended with care. The result: a growth that will delight you with its roundness, its lightness and its fruity taste.
Located on the fine gravel rises of Bouqueyran and Puy de Minjon, one of the highest points of the commune, château Bouqueyran produces complex, powerful and rich wines that can age a good ten years.
For the record, we would recall that M. Philippe Porcheron farms château Rose Sainte Croix in the commune of Listrac and, in the commune of Margaux, Marojallia and Clos Margalaine.
