The estate

In brief

Château Belles-Graves is a family property, acquired in 1938 by Jean Theallet, grandfather of the present manager, M. Xavier Piton. The chartreuse dates from the 18th century and is said to have sheltered Prosper Mérimée, on his journey to join Empress Eugénie. Closer to our own time, Commandant J.-Y. Cousteau, first cousin of J. Théallet, liked to come from time to time to rest among the family vines, and to taste each year’s new vintage before taking it aboard the Calypso or the Alcyone.
