This vineyard is located on the south-facing slope of the hillsides where several premiers crus of Saint-Émilion are found. It was created at the end of the 18th century by Count Louis François de Belcier, who gave it the name Bellefont, that is “Belle Fontaine” (beautiful spring), because of the many springs rising on the clay-limestone south hillside. A century later, the property was bought by Monsieur Pierre Faure, who devoted several years of his life to it and made it one of the most remarkable properties in the Gironde. A circular vat room was built into the hillside on this magnificent site, the jewel of the property.
His heirs ran the estate until 1994.
The house is framed by tall plane trees, among the finest in the world, and faces the woods of the plain, where customers and friends of wine are received for training seminars and tastings.
The efforts made by the new owners were rewarded by the latest classification of Saint-Émilion wines, which places Bellefont-Belcier among the Classés.
