Founded in the 13th century, the small commune of Cussac-Fort-Médoc enjoys the illustrious neighbourhood of Margaux and Saint-Julien. It belongs to the ancestral cradle of the Médoc vineyard. On this terroir blessed by the gods, nature has brought together ideal climatic and geological conditions for growing vines. Here, the warm Médoc sun is tempered by the coolness of the nearby river. An extraordinary soil of large, round, polished stones, accumulating the heat of the day, protects each vine from winter frosts and hastens the ripening of the grapes in autumn.
Château Aney owes its name to its first owner, who created the vineyard around 1850. His daughter married M. Renouil, who enlarged the estate and then had the present elegant residence built in 1880. In the mid-20th century, the property, handed down within the family, was no longer farmed. So when Jean and Pierre Raimond acquired it in 1972, they had to undertake an almost total reconstitution of the vineyard as well as the renovation of the cellars and vat rooms. Classified Cru Bourgeois in 1932 and then confirmed in 2003, Château Aney upholds the high qualities attached to its designation. Indeed, the name Cru Bourgeois is historically associated with these excellent lands acquired from the end of the Hundred Years’ War by great Bordeaux families. Today, this long lineage of quality is perpetuated through the care given to the vines and to vinification, the numerous fining and racking operations during ageing in oak casks, the selection of cuvées and château bottling.
Appreciated by a vast international clientele, by the trade and by many private customers, the wine combines all the qualities of the Haut-Médoc: a ruby colour whose lightness is due to the predominance of Cabernet, a nose evoking scents of undergrowth and spices, a palate full of sap, a body that rounds out magnificently after a few years in the cellar.
With Château Aney, happy are those who know how to wait.
