About

FranceAgriMer, the national establishment for agricultural and marine products, carries out its missions on behalf of the government, in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.

These missions consist mainly in promoting consultation within the agricultural and forestry sectors, ensuring the knowledge and organization of markets, as well as managing national and community public support:

The wine sector has a specialized council and three committees. The latter concern:

  • the "Wine and Cider Industry Funds" committee,

  • the "Wood and vine plants" committee,

  • the Cider Products Committee.

Four priority measures have been selected and implemented as part of the strategic consultation and management of the national program of the CMO for wine managed by the specialized council of FranceAgriMer for the wine sector:

  • Support for vineyard restructuring is important because it ensures the sustainability and renewal of the French vineyard by providing professionals in the wine industry with the means to develop the competitiveness of their operations and adapt their production to market changes.  FranceAgriMer, in partnership with other administrations, has developed "Vitiplantation", an application that allows to declare the planting and restructuring of vineyards, online, in order to facilitate and improve the management of the vineyard potential.

  • FranceAgriMer finances studies that inform strategic decisions in the sector. These include monitoring the state of wine markets, including internationally, with an annual follow-up of the sector's competitiveness compared to its competitors, and the Observatoire de la viticulture, which provides information on the economic situation of the different types of French wine farms. Other studies on consumer behavior, the reputation of French wines abroad, etc., support the industry in developing its export strategy and in collectively thinking about promotional actions to be taken with respect to third countries.

  • FranceAgriMer also supports the French wine industry in the field of research and experimentation, particularly with regard to vine decline.

  • The certification of tree and vine plantations, as well as of wines without geographical indication of the vintage or the grape variety(ies), is also part of FranceAgriMer's missions.
