Château Tauzinat l’Hermitage is “one of the oldest growths of the region”, we read in the first Férets. Its name originates from the tauzin oaks, famous for the truffles that grow at their feet. History mentions this estate from 1670; the residence built at that time became in the 18th century the property of Count Jacques-Amédée de Carles, lieutenant general of the King’s armies. The quality of the wine of Tauzinat l’Hermitage was recognised at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889, and since then numerous medals have rewarded the quality of the work of Bernard Moueix’s family.
This fine 9-hectare estate, all slopes and plateaux, extends over two communes, Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes and Saint-Hippolyte. Planted 85% with Merlot and 15% with Cabernet Franc, the vines are trained in double guyot and worked with great respect for tradition. Adjusted pruning, thinning and leaf removal make it possible to harvest perfectly healthy and concentrated grapes.
The harvest is carried out exclusively by hand and at full ripeness, followed by sorting of the grapes in the vat room. A long maceration allows optimal extraction of tannins and anthocyanins, known for their beneficial properties. After running off, the wines are aged for 15 months in oak casks from high forest in central France.
Of great elegance and generosity, Château Tauzinat l’Hermitage is much appreciated by gourmets, who find it on the most renowned French and foreign tables.
