Château de Rouillac is a very old estate. Formerly the noble land of Rouillac, it extends north of the Eau Bourde, in an excellent gravel terroir. Baron Haussmann, minister of Napoleon III, was the builder and owner of Rouillac. He received the emperor there in 1869. Already, the wines he produced were unanimously appreciated and held a prominent place on Napoleon III’s table.
The vineyard was rebuilt in 1970. The wine produced is a great wine for ageing, put every year into new French oak casks.
The Rouillac terroir is typical of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Planted on a rise of fine gravel and facing due south, the vineyard enjoys all the conditions necessary for the making of great wines.
The recent facilities include in particular a modern vat room, equipped half with wooden foudres and half with stainless steel vats, all temperature-controlled. All the work in the vines, with a more environmentally respectful approach, and the cellars tend towards a highly qualitative production. Grapes are harvested at ideal ripeness, by hand in small crates, with a pass over a sorting table.
The wine of Château de Rouillac is complex, very distinctive, with aromas of well-ripened red fruit, supple and balanced.
In 2003, Rouillac produced its first white wine, from a blend of three grape varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and Sémillon. Ageing in barrels (35% new) with lees stirring gives complexity and structure to this smooth and aromatic white wine.
Laurent Cisneros, a man of passion and commitment, tied his future and that of his family to Château de Rouillac in January 2010. A businessman, he took a new direction and awakened this sleeping beauty. Intuition, but also the enormous potential of this estate, make him fully involved in the building and future of Château de Rouillac.
Baron Haussmann was a horse lover and had built magnificent stables at Rouillac. Laurent Cisneros and his family, also passionate about horses, have completely rehabilitated the stables, which are today occupied by superb sport horses (show jumping).
