Located at the highest point of the Pomerol appellation, on the “clay buttonhole” that peaks at forty metres, Pétrus produces a generous wine, at once fine, full-bodied and fragrant, and moreover possessing the very pronounced scent of truffle. These special qualities are due to a clay subsoil, which gives it the particular stamp that makes it universally appreciated.
Created at the end of the 18th century, Pétrus shines thanks to the genius of Madame Marie-Louise Loubat. After spending twenty years buying back all the shares of the société civile du château Pétrus created in 1917, she became its sole owner just before the Second World War. Convinced that Pétrus was a wine of exceptional quality, she never ceased working to improve the vineyard and the cellars. Her meeting with Jean-Pierre Moueix was to be decisive. By asking him to handle the marketing of Pétrus, together they built the worldwide reputation the growth enjoys today.
Their successors continue their work. Among recent achievements, the thorough restoration of all the buildings between 2011 and 2013 marks this desire to serve this universal wine, almost out of time.
