Château Haut-Mousseau

In 1978, the Briolais family acquired this cru in the Côtes de Bourg, some thirty kilometres north of Bordeaux. It has been built up over the years. It now covers 33 hectares, 10 times as much as at the beginning.
Château Haut Mousseau faces the southern hillsides of the Bourgeais, which gives it maximum sunshine, contributing to the quality of the grapes.
The vineyard has an average age of 35 years and lies on clay-limestone and gravel terroirs. It is planted with the finest grape varieties.
The wines of Château Haut-Mousseau find their frame and body in the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, which make up 40% of the blend, while Merlot completes them with perfume and subtle aromas, adding flavour and suavity.
The vineyard is worked very scrupulously. Grass cover is natural and controlled. The strategy in the vineyard is refined in order to produce ripe, healthy grapes. The potential of each vine on each terroir is brought out so as to restore to each its standing.
Once sorted, the well-ripened berries enter the cellar in perfect sanitary condition and are vinified in stainless steel vats, respecting the plot selection. After a long maceration, the wine is aged in barrels where it will be cosseted, nurtured and constantly watched over for months. Bottling takes place after a traditional fining with egg white. The wines are stored in a storage cellar where they improve slowly after so much effort and care to help each vintage better assert its personality.
The wines of Château Haut Mousseau have won medals at competitions every year since 1986 (several gold medals in Paris, Mâcon, Vin d’Aquitaine, Blayais-Bourgeais). It is found very regularly in the guides, notably the Hachette guide.
The production is sold to more than 5000 customers by direct sales: for export (Europe) and in France to gourmet restaurants, delicatessens, wine merchants and lovers of good wine.
