Château Grand Corbin Manuel was born from the “Corbin” estate, which belonged to the barons de Maillet and lords of Corbin, a noble family of the sword, originally from Touraine, which moved to Périgord, then to the Libournais. Two of them were mayors of Libourne, one in 1495 and the second in 1520. After many successions, the growth was taken over in 1968 by Pierre Manuel, who, adding his name to that of the growth, signed its renewal according to the Bordeaux tradition of the 19th century.
Born into a family of Saint-Émilion owner-winegrowers that has managed renowned growths for several generations, Stéphane de Gaye and his children took over Château Grand Corbin Manuel out of passion in 2005. The reins of the estate were entrusted to Yseult de Gaye, Stéphane’s daughter.
The vineyard, admirably located on the boundary of the Saint-Émilion and Pomerol appellations, is in a single block around the residence and the wine buildings.
On the takeover, many investments were made to ensure optimum control in the vineyard (drainage of the plots, revision of the trellising, replacement of missing or weak vines, etc.).
Modernisation work was also carried out in the cellars, with the installation of a vat room fully equipped with small-capacity temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and an air-conditioned barrel cellar fitted with a humidity control system. A reception room has also been entirely conceived and designed to receive visitors from around the world and to let them discover, besides the estate’s facilities, the wines produced there.
A rigorous and precise approach is followed in the vineyard in order to reveal the excellence of the terroir and obtain a harvest of very fine quality.
Château Grand Corbin Manuel has thus regained its credentials since 2005, with a clear objective in sight: to equal the prestigious growths that surround it!
