Château Fonrazade

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru • 13 HA

The estate

In brief

After belonging for many decades to the Count des Cordes, château Fonrazade became, in 1958, the property of M. Guy Balotte.
Planted with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, on the south-west slope of the Mazerat hillside, this vineyard, with an average age of 40 years, enjoys a fortunate position: adjoining château Angélus, it extends over 13 hectares alongside the greatest growths of Saint-Émilion.
Green harvesting and successive sortings are carried out before picking, which is done by hand. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, a third of which are renewed every year, for a period varying with the vintage from 12 to 18 months.
This vigilant care produces a supple, fruity, well-structured wine, which is sold to private customers both in France and abroad, notably in Belgium, Great Britain and other European Union countries.
This growth shows to particular advantage when it accompanies rich dishes such as red meats, game and certain salty cheeses.
The wines of Fonrazade have won several medals and diplomas in numerous competitions.
