Since 1982, the Raynaud family, owners of Château La Croix-de-Gay, have decided to devote their plots of La Fleur de Gay to making a wine of great prestige. Thus was born La Fleur de Gay, a product perfectly representative of the sublime qualities of the high terrace of Pomerol.
Despite its small area (barely 2 hectares), La Fleur de Gay has its own ageing cellar and benefits from a totally separate vinification. The harvest here lasts only a handful of hours and is done by hand at the grapes’ maximum ripeness.
Picking is done in small crates with sorting in the vat room. One of the particularities of La Fleur de Gay lies in its grape variety, exclusively Merlot. To fully express the immense potential of this variety combined with the virtues of the gravel-clay soil, fermentations are deliberately carried out at high temperature and are extended by long weeks of maceration. Ageing is carried out entirely in new barrels to bring suppleness and a good integration of the oaky aromas.
The wines of La Fleur de Gay combine power, roundness and aromas. The long exchanges with new oak give them a complexity and integration that fills the palate with exceptional persistence.
