Château Crusquet de Lagarcie

Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux • 32 HA

The estate

In brief

This estate has been run by the family of Benoît de Lagarcie since 1863 in the commune of Cars.
The wines of this growth are, rightly so, among the most renowned. They are full-bodied and reserved for private customers who appreciate their distinction and their brilliantly full colour. The family tradition of distributing most of its production in Lower Normandy, to private customers, is moreover perpetuated.
The magnificent two-storey cellar and vat room, which is admired by visitors, was built at the beginning of the 20th century, in 1905. The slope of the ground was happily put to use for installing a crusher above the vats, so as to allow level access to the first floor as well as the ground floor. The vat room has 8 oak vats. It is to date the last estate in the Blayais to own and use a wooden vat room.
Concrete, used for the vault and the paving, makes it easy to maintain meticulous cleanliness, meeting the requirements of wine-making asepsis.
Among the choice of grape varieties, one notes the desire to bring back to the fore a classic of the Bordeaux region, Malbec, in order to give increased finesse to the fruity and velvety qualities of the wine.
The de Lagarcie family also owns Château Les Princesses de Lagarcie and Château Touzignan, located in Cars, and Château Le Cône-Taillasson-de-Lagarcie, in Blaye.
