Château la Croix-Toulifaut

In this place, as the name “La Croix Toulifaut” indicates, there has always been a fine stone cross erected close to the vineyard. Pilgrims on the Way of Saint James of Compostela, past and present, stop here. They thus celebrate its name, which comes from the Romance language ” tot li falt “, meaning everything fails there or, more commonly, everyone succumbs there. In the tradition of hospitality on the Way of Saint James, they all succumb to the temptation of tasting a Pomerol, incomparable and invigorating.
Remarkably exposed on the south slope of the Pomerol plateau, the La Croix-Toulifaut vineyard has Beauregard as a neighbour to the north and Château Figeac, Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, to the south.
This cru, with a sandy soil over a ferruginous base, is planted with Merlot (83%) and Cabernet Franc (17%).
The elegance, finesse and velvety quality of this wine have something discreetly feminine; it is a little, says Jean-Luc Pouteau, best sommelier in the World, the “Princess” of Pomerol. As Jean-François Janoueix likes to point out when speaking of his wine, La Croix Toulifaut: “It is with this wine as with a great happiness: it is rare, very rare…”.
Its production, entirely bottled at the château, is about 9,000 bottles, all numbered. The label illustration was entrusted to the famous painter Lucien Fontanarosa, Prix de Rome.
