Château des Cerfs

The estate

In brief

Fernand Vauvrecy acquired this property in 1937. Passionate about his profession, he wished to showcase the production of the cru and, ahead of his time, became one of the pioneers of what are today called independent winegrowers, carrying out bottling himself at the property. Keen to make the most of the wines of Château des Cerfs, he set about selling them by his own means and was thus one of the pioneers of direct sales in the Lalande de Pomerol appellation.
Over the years, he built up a loyal clientele that enabled him to keep his estate going through the Second World War and then the terrible years of frost (1956-1957).
A passion taken up by his wife, then passed on to his children, Château des Cerfs remains a typically family estate; it is currently run by the third generation.
The vineyard, in a single block, is located on the clay-sand plateau of Chaigneau, overlooking and bordering the prestigious Pomerol area. The famous iron residues are not far away. The vines are cultivated according to tradition and harvested by hand. The magic of the terroir, combined with technical investment, gives a supple and generous wine with intense aromas of ripe fruit. Barrel ageing, well measured according to the vintage after blending, offers the pleasure of a wine typical of its appellation and respectful of ancestral traditions.
The Vauvrecy-Boutet family also owns Château Moulin blanc, in the Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation, which receives the same care.
