The Chatenoud family has owned Château de Bellevue since 1971. Estate bottling was already practised there in 1905. At that time it belonged to M. Combrouze, deputy-mayor of Saint-Émilion.
The vineyard surrounding this pretty 18th-century chartreuse comprises 12 hectares of clay-limestone soils resting on limestone bedrock. The wines are dominated by Merlot (95%) with 5% Cabernet Franc. Vine growing has followed organic methods (Ecocert controlled) since 2002.
Vinification is classic. Ageing takes place in vats and in Bordeaux French oak barrels. The wine is aged in bottle in the old quarries beneath the vines, at a constant temperature of 12°C.
After 6 to 10 years in bottle, the wines reach their optimum for tasting.
They also produce an original white wine, a pure Sauvignon Gris.
