This family property, formerly the 1st growth of the Cordeliers, was acquired in 1887 by Joseph Brisson from the Berthomieu de Meynot family, who had farmed it since 1686.
A Grand Cru Classé since the origin of the classification in 1956, the 6.24 hectares of vineyard, planted 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, enjoy an exceptional position on the limestone plateau overlooking the town of Saint-Émilion and on the south-facing hillsides opposite Ausone, neighbouring the Premiers Grands Crus Classés Pavie Macquin, Troplong-Mondot and Trottevieille.
Work in the vineyard is optimised on the basis of soil studies: the vineyard consists of 19 plots tended like a garden. Vinification is parcel-based. The vineyard has been restructured and the facilities were renovated in 1999 (9 small temperature-controlled vats and 2 stainless steel vats). Ageing takes place in an underground cellar (natural gravity) with only a third in new oak barrels. The young vines produce a “fruit wine”, easy to drink from the first years: Délice de Prieuré.
Everything is done to produce authentic wines that respect the very typical limestone soils of the Saint-Émilion plateau and hillsides.
The limestone plateau gives the wine finesse, balance and elegance, and the full-south-facing clay slope gives it strength, texture and density.
This very elegant wine develops mineral and floral notes: violet, peppermint, wild blackberry and spice. A wine of flavours.
