Château Faurie-de-Souchard

Château Faurie-de-Souchard is one of the oldest growths in the commune of Saint-Émilion, “Faurie” evoking the battle fought there during the Hundred Years’ War, and “Souchard” recalling the name of the family that distinguished itself in the 18th century at the Parliament of Bordeaux, at the Jurade, and at the head of the municipality of Saint-Émilion.
Since then, the reputation of this growth has only grown, allowing it to acquire a leading place among the Grands Crus Classés. The Jabiol family had owned this growth since 1933. In December 2013, château Faurie-de-Souchard joined the portfolio of Dassault Wine Estates.
Major drainage work was carried out in 2006 in the plots and in all the vine rows. From 2008 to 2013, 3 hectares of vines were replanted with quality clones and the planting density was increased to 7,500 vines/ha, giving the grapes better quality and greater concentration.
The quality of the work carried out over several years, respect for the land and the spirit of the terroir, with the supreme aim of producing a great wine, fit perfectly with the group’s vocation of seeking excellence.
Average production is 60,000 bottles, much appreciated by connoisseurs and distributed worldwide by the best houses. Leaf removal and green harvesting are practised if necessary. The harvest is by hand with sorting in the winery. The wines are aged in oak casks until château bottling.
The existing barrel cellar was entirely renovated in 2009 and another barrel cellar was created in 2008 in order to carry out malolactic fermentations in better conditions. During the spring of 2014, the winery was entirely renovated.
The wine of château Faurie-de-Souchard is full-bodied and generous, and has all the characteristics of the best products of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation. Vinification and ageing are carried out under the care of a wine consultant.
