According to tradition, it was a younger son (cadet) of the Bon family, an old Saint-Émilion family, who, by settling in the 14th century on the Cadet hillock, gave it its name. Since then, this property has known varied fortunes, appearing in 1867 among the prize-winning Saint-Émilions; bought back in 2001 by Guy Richard, who strives to optimise to the maximum the qualitative potential of this exceptional terroir. The success achieved on a great many markets, and notably with the greatest restaurants in Europe, bears witness to the result obtained. In 1996, château Cadet-Bon regained its rank among the Grands Crus Classés of Saint-Émilion.
Thanks to its fortunate southern aspect, its rocky subsoil, its clay-limestone soil and its chosen grape varieties, the estate produces a fine, fragrant, warm and generous wine, which is the subject of careful attention, both for vinification in an ultra-modern vat room and for barrel ageing, to which a judicious use of new oak lends its mark without excess.
Its location at the gates of Saint-Émilion and on the dominant plateau makes it a magnificent site.
Since 2004 the vineyard and vinifications have been overseen and advised by Stéphane Derenoncourt and his team.
