The estate

In brief

The vineyard of Château Fonroque extends over the west-facing slope of the “Cadet”. This exposure shelters it from spring frosts and allows it to take full advantage of the sun’s rays for complete ripening of the grapes. The presence of limestone in the majority of plots is such that the plant’s water regime is perfect. On this exceptional terroir, Alain Moueix defends, with vigour and an in-depth scientific approach, the pursuit of the balance of the terroir. Château Fonroque is certified organic (Agrocert) and biodynamic (controlled by Ecocert).
Planted with the best-suited grape varieties and cultivated with the most scrupulous care, each plot is the subject of thorough analysis. This knowledge of the terroir makes it possible to draw the quintessence from the vineyard of Château Fonroque.
The wines are characterised by their harmony and elegance. Not lacking in power, they show a pleasant complexity and a rare balance in which the fruit remains present; they age remarkably in bottle and keep their freshness and sap for many years.
For several years, following rigorous selections, a second wine has been offered: Château Cartier. It comes mainly from young vines and can be drunk younger.
