Château Fonplégade is one of the oldest vineyards in Saint-Émilion. On the “plateau” one can still see the furrows cut into the rock where the Romans planted vines. It now belongs to M. and Mme Adams, an American with a passion for the wines of Saint-Émilion who has undertaken the complete renovation of Fonplégade since buying it in 2004: cellars, vat room, equipment, reception.
Château Fonplégade is located on the southern slope of the Saint-Émilion hillsides. It occupies a mid-slope hollow, sunny and sheltered from the north and west winds. The privileged situation of Château Fonplégade means that the predominantly limestone plateau, the clay-limestone hollow or mid-slope, and the silica-limestone foot of the slope are all grouped together in equal proportion.
It produces wines whose ripeness, mellowness, finesse and bouquet have at all times been highly appreciated.
