Château Tayac commands an estate that includes a 37-hectare vineyard. It is entirely located on the rises of the hamlet of Tayac and on the best gravelly land of the commune of Soussans.
In 1847, the vineyard was part of château Desmirail, 3rd Growth in Margaux. From 1875 to 1891, the wines of this growth were taken to Margaux and were part of the Mellet cellar. Subsequently, the cellar was divided, and the share of the owner at the time formed the vineyard in question under the name château Tayac.
This vineyard is essentially planted with noble grape varieties and cultivated with the greatest care by Monsieur Guy Portet, technical director, who introduced the Cousinié method: it provides more nutritional balance for fewer treatments. It rebalances the soils, strengthens the vines’ natural defences and improves the intrinsic qualities of the grape. Vinification is conducted according to tradition by Nicolas Portet.
Château Tayac, a family property for 4 generations, produces an excellent wine that benefits from the Margaux appellation; it has all its qualities and characteristics. It is prized both by the major négociants and by private enthusiasts of the fine bottles dispensed by its owner.
