The Château Taffard de Blaignan vineyard extends to the north-west of the village, on the borders of the communes of Ordonnac and Blaignan.
This terroir has always been recognised as excellent and, already in the second edition (1868) of Bordeaux et ses Vins®, Édouard Féret placed Château Taffard de Blaignan at the head of its commune, with a production of 200/250 barrels (1800/2250 hl), M. Ch. Peychaud being its owner; in the same edition, it is also specified that the wines obtained “successive subscriptions for over half a century in Holland”.
Considered a Cru Bourgeois in subsequent editions, Château Taffard de Blaignan suffered, like its neighbours in the Bordeaux region, from the ravages of phylloxera, which considerably reduced production. In 1929, still at the head of its commune, it offered a production of 80 barrels of red wine and 20 barrels of excellent white wine. For some twenty years, the vineyard has been fleshed out and improved.
The owner favours long macerations in order to extract the maximum of material, then the wine is aged for a year in oak barrels renewed by a quarter each year. Regularly medalled since 2008, the technical improvements have brought results.
