As far back as our archives go (1838), the Bosq and Renouil families were winegrowers in Listrac. The Renouil cru is duly listed in the first edition of the “Féret” in 1850.
Since its acquisition by the Bosq family in the 1920s, four generations have handed down their attachment to the land and their love of work well done in order to bring out the full quintessence of the wine of Château Liouner, renamed by the new owners from a mischievous anagram of the original name.
In 1975, Pierre Bosq increased the family capital with the acquisition of Château Cantegric, a small property of 5 hectares.
For on this fine Médoc estate, over time, the vine has not always had the importance we know it to have today; the figures speak for themselves: 1.5 hectares in 1956, 12 hectares in 1981, before finally reaching the present area.
Firmly established in the Médoc, the Bosq family has always run a forestry business in parallel. It owns more than 400 hectares of woodland, which are gradually recovering after the ravages caused by the storms of 1999.
As for the figures, there will be no reversal to celebrate the old vintages. Enthusiasts can try their luck at the estate. The estate’s wines age remarkably well. As far as this taster can remember, the 1959 gives off flavours of undergrowth and candied plum; the attack on the palate is silky, with notes of caramel and mint. The 1961, more mineral, combines firmness and elegance in a major key. Recent vintages show great potential. At Liouner, Listrac-Médoc is tasted in the tasting room facing the barrel cellar, which lets out the murmur of the latest harvest.
The family offers you a warm welcome and invites you to go further in your knowledge. From an introduction to vineyard work to tasting classes, by way of a visit to the vat room, you can follow a genuine voyage of discovery. The summer period is synonymous with ” festivals “, which are so many occasions to celebrate wine.
