The name Cos-Labory comes from the place known as “Caux”, meaning “hill of pebbles”, and from the owner of the years 1800-1840, Monsieur Labory.
Bought in 1845 by Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel, château Cos-Labory was resold in 1852 to an English banker, Mr Charles Martyns. It is now owned by the Audoy family.
The vineyard, located on the Cos gravel rise, is planted with the traditional Médoc grape varieties.
After a rigorously conducted vinification by Mr Bernard Audoy, an oenologist graduated from the Bordeaux Institute of Oenology, the wine is aged for 12 to 15 months in oak casks, 30% to 50% of which are renewed each year. After the traditional fining with egg white, the entire harvest is bottled at the château.
The wines produced have a fine colour, a rich and complex nose and a structure typical of Saint-Estèphe.
Château Cos-Labory is a member of the Académie du vin de Bordeaux, the Commanderie du Bontemps du Médoc et des Graves and the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux.
