Situated 3 kilometres from the famous village of Saint-Émilion, Château Pipeau is rooted at the foot of the clay-limestone slopes of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes and benefits from all the traditional know-how of passionate winegrowers, combined with the most modern techniques. For four generations, the Mestreguilhem family has carefully watched over the vines of Château Pipeau. It all began in 1927, when Georges Mestreguilhem acquired the house and adjoining vineyards, transformed the building with the construction of the first tower and named his property after one of his plots, “Pipeau”. The wine was sold in bottles and barrels, and during the war his wife, Yvonne, kept the business going on her own, delivering Bordeaux by van. In 1945, Pierre Mestreguilhem took over, built a vat room, abandoned barrel sales, and in 1962 modernised the label, which is now emblematic of Château Pipeau. In 1977, his children Richard and Dominique took over the running of the estate. In 1980, they improved the vinification process with a new vat room equipped with stainless steel vats. From the 2000 vintage onwards, Château Pipeau became a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru that was highly prized in Bordeaux and France, supported by a solid network of direct sales to private customers. In 2014, Jean Mestreguilhem, son of Richard and Brigitte, joined the family venture after gaining experience in California and South Africa. A great-grandson of Georges, representing the fourth generation at the Château, Jean combines tradition and modernity to preserve the family heritage. On his arrival, the family invested in an optical sorting machine for greater precision at harvest time. At the same time, wine tourism has flourished, with the opening of a boutique and a reception area. Regularly mentioned in famous wine guides and in the international press, the quality of Château Pipeau’s wine continues to improve year after year!
