Founded in the 19th century, Château Gauthier is a historic vineyard in the southern Blayais region, on the edge of the Côtes de Bourg. Nestled in the heart of a beautiful valley rich in biodiversity, the estate was taken over in 2017 by Fabien Bonabaud, a winegrower in love with the place, who is keen to enhance this unique terroir of sand and small gravels, which is conducive to the production of red wines of great finesse (Château Gauthier was classified as a Bordeaux Premier Cru in 1946 by Féret). For Fabien, Château Gauthier is a dream come true. In 2018, he created Domaine Bonabaud, which brings together the vineyards of Château Gauthier and its preserved environment of river, forest and pastures. Today, Fabien manages the 25-hectare estate (a third of which is vineyard) with his mother Chantal, and a team of highly specialised technicians. Already HVE certified since 2019, the estate practices meticulous, low environmental impact viticulture, without irrigation or synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. The estate is also a signatory of the Natura 2000 Charter for the preservation of the Nézereau river which runs alongside it.
