Côtes de Bordeaux

The beginnings of Côtes de Bordeaux date back to 1985! Aware of the strength they could represent together, the producers of the Côtes du Bordeaux wines decided to pool their resources in order to create a real identity and to communicate with a single voice. The Côtes de Bordeaux association was born.
It would take twenty years for the idea of a collective brand of recognition to emerge - the AOC Côtes de Bordeaux - which would unite the appellations of the association under a single banner. The Côtes de Bordeaux association thus became the Union des Côtes de Bordeaux, bringing together the terroirs of Blaye, Cadillac, Castillon and Francs, with the Côtes de Bourg remaining on the sidelines.
In October 2008, the draft specifications of the new appellation was published in the Official Journal. In this draft, it is planned to mention a common surname Côtes de Bordeaux and an addition - Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux, Francs Côtes de Bordeaux, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux or Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux - which enhances the personality of each terroir.
On October 31, 2009, in consultation with the INAO and the professional bodies of Bordeaux, the specifications officially gave birth to the new AOC Côtes de Bordeaux. The specifications were approved by decree in December 2011.
In November 2016, a fifth territory, the Sainte-Foy Bordeaux appellation, officially joined the Union des Côtes de Bordeaux. A new adventure begins in Bordeaux. It responds in a relevant way to the evolution of markets and draws its origin from the history of the vineyard.
The region of this appellation could or should also include the Côtes de Bordeaux-Saint-Macaire, the Graves de Vayres, and perhaps one day the Entre-deux-Mers, a region that used to produce sweet white wine, but which converted to the production of red wine at the end of the 20th century.
The Côtes de Bordeaux appellations are spread over five clearly identified territories. The vineyards of the Côtes are located on hillsides with predominantly clay-limestone soils.
The geographical situation of these soils is ideal. It allows the vineyards to benefit from strong sunshine, good rainfall and soil drainage. Also, the climate is strongly linked to the proximity of the rivers. All the terroirs are located on the banks of the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, great assets that allow a quality of maturation that brings a significant aromatic expression.
The appellations of the Côtes de Bordeaux have in common a relief of sunny hillsides and an exceptional architectural and historical heritage, which makes it a particularly pleasant destination.

About the wines
The Côtes de Bordeaux has 950 producers and presents a great diversity since it benefits from a temperate climate thanks to the proximity of the river. Depending on the terroir and the grape varieties used, the vintages differ.
The reds are greedy wines with a certain roundness and a good structure in mouth. These wines present aromas of strawberry, raspberry, plum, and also vanilla and moka.
