Côtes de Bordeaux Saint-Macaire

blanc • liquoreux • moelleux • 200 ha

Saint-Macaire, a former godchild of Bordeaux, owes its name to this "regional bishop" who preached and evangelized this city in the 6th century. It is a very interesting and curious city that deserves to be visited for many reasons, if only for the past it represents and the white wine appellation it has generated.

The Côtes de Bordeaux-Saint-Macaire region extends the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux region to the east. It is limited to the west by this region, to the south by the Garonne, to the east and north by the Entre-deux-Mers region. It is made up of a series of hillsides practically parallel to the river and separated from each other by wide valleys covered with vines. The roads, often located on the ridges, are not without tourist interest, opening wide horizons on the Garonne valley.

This region has a rugged relief, with numerous hillsides interspersed with more or less green valleys, covered with clay-limestone or clay-sand soils resting on a subsoil of the same nature or frankly limestone. This soil is particularly favorable to the culture of the vine but also to that of the fruit trees.

At the bottom of the slopes, between the river and the national road that runs alongside it, the land of the "palus", rich in modern alluvium, allows the cultivation of corn and important plantations of poplars.
