This 10-hectare estate, whose history dates back to 1663, has always belonged to notable figures of the region.
In May 2018, Maison Kavaklidere, with two vintages to its name in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux at Château La Croix Lartigue, and aware of the potential of the Claud Bellevue vineyard, decided to acquire it in order to build a coherent whole within the appellation.
The vines on the Claud Bellevue plateau, with an average age of 15 years, were originally planted at a density of 5,000 vines/ha. The grape varieties are dominated by Merlot and complemented by Cabernet Franc and a few old Cabernet Sauvignon vines.
On this vineyard, the more or less degraded clay that was deposited in a thin layer (less than 40 cm) on the famous Asteries limestone plateau gives the wine a rather airy and fine character.
The most limestone-rich parts form a privileged terroir for the Cabernet Franc grape variety, hence the decision to increase the proportion of this variety as part of the restructuring, with the aim of achieving an optimal match between soil and grape varieties in order to produce a wine that reflects, vintage after vintage, the best that this terroir can offer.
A large part of the vineyard has been replanted at a density of 7,400 vines/ha.
