The estate

In brief

The Gouze family acquired vines at the place called “Bonneau” in 1922. The estate comprised 4 hectares of vines and almost as much meadow, which then served as pasture for the oxen used to work the vines.
Marc Gouze inherited the estate in 1958 and settled there with his wife. Despite a difficult period due to the terrible frosts of 1956 and 1957, he modernised his cellars in 1961 and committed himself fully to the development of Château Bonneau. In 1969 he enlarged the vineyard by 5 hectares and in 1975 he had a new vinification cellar built.
Thierry, his son, joined him to work at his side in 1984 with his oenology diploma in his pocket. Father and son formed a partnership and created SCEA Marc Gouze et fils.
In 1988, they acquired a 3-hectare estate in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, Château Hyon La Fleur in the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation.
For a little more wine, a little more space is needed, so a new bottle cellar and a barrel cellar were built in 1990.
From then on the wines of the estate were aged in oak casks, gaining in complexity without losing their origins. No one doubts that quality is there, now that the 6th generation of the Gouze family directs the destiny of the vineyard today.
