The estate

In brief

Château de Tabuteau has belonged for several generations of winegrowers to the Bessou family, who have handed down the art and taste of vine growing and winemaking. Since 1982, a family operating company has been set up comprising two people, M. Bertrand Bessou and his sister Sylvie.
With an area of 19 hectares, this vineyard is located in the north of the commune of Lussac on silica-clay soils containing iron residues in places.
60% of the vineyard is grassed, thus offering better water regulation and controlling the vigour and quality of the grapes.
Leaf removal and thinning are carried out each year as needed. Manual sorting of the grape bunches is carried out before total destemming. Vinification takes place in small-capacity, temperature-controlled concrete vats, thus allowing total control of fermentation temperatures. The vatting lasts 3 to 4 weeks depending on the year.
Les Vignobles Bessou also run Château Durand-Laplagne, Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion (100,000 bottles), and Château Cap de Merle, Bordeaux Supérieur (93,000 bottles).
