Pierre Bienvenu Noailles (1793-1861) was at first destined for the bar before entering the seminary and being ordained a priest in 1819.
On 19 May 1820, he founded the order of the Sainte Famille, to which he donated the Domaine de la Solitude, on which important conventual buildings were erected that are still in use.
In 1993, the order chose to entrust the running of its 25-hectare vineyard to the Bernard family, owner of the Domaine de Chevalier, one of the most prestigious Crus Classés of the same appellation.
Located on very gravelly, deep and remarkably free-draining sandy soils, the estate immediately benefited from technical investments which, together with the know-how of the new operators and above all the quality of this very fine terroir, have already raised the Domaine de la Solitude to the level of the best grands crus of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
