A family property handed down by inheritance for more than five centuries, château de Sales, whose present buildings date from the end of the 16th century, is a 90-hectare estate, 47.5 of which form the largest vineyard in the Pomerol appellation.
It is currently run by M. Bruno de Lambert, one of the heirs of the de Laage family.
Its position in the Pomerol A.O.C., its predominantly Merlot grape varieties (70%), the sand-gravel nature of the soil, the care given to cultivation (leaf removal, green harvest, mating disruption…) and to vinification, which combine modern techniques (sorting table, temperature control…) with respect for tradition (ageing in oak casks…), give its wines the qualities of finesse, bouquet, distinction, roundness, fruitiness and amiability that justify the reputation they have acquired. These wines are the expression of their terroir.
Each year a selection is made from the harvest. Château de Sales represents on average only 2/3 of production, the remaining third being sold under the name château Chantalouette Pomerol.
