Château Petit Clos du Roy is a fine Gironde chartreuse with an 18th-century balustraded flight of steps. The third generation of Janoueix is thus established on the estate, which covers 15 hectares in a single block. Located at the crossroads of the communes of Saint-Émilion, Pomerol and Néac, it is one of the best terroirs of Montagne-Saint-Émilion.
The clay soil (heavy and deep) allows it notably to achieve very fine results in drought years.
The rigorous selection of grape varieties (80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc) makes it possible to obtain, for this vineyard with an average age of 35 years, a yield of 40 hectolitres per hectare.
The cultivation of the vine is particularly careful. The date of the harvest, often late, is set after several samplings to ensure optimal ripeness. The harvest is sorted by hand in the vat room on a belt. The vat room, with a capacity of 2,000 hectolitres, is equipped with vitrified underground tanks. Bottling is done under the owner’s own responsibility, who thus preserves to the end the quality and character of his wine.
