The estate

In brief

In the north-east of the Lussac-Saint-Émilion AOC, Château Mayne-Blanc is a family estate par excellence: passed from father to son for several generations.
Its vineyard, with a harmonious blend of grape varieties, forms an ideal whole for the good balance of a great wine for laying down.
The picking of the grapes is completed by a severe sorting in order to eliminate the few undesirable seeds and impurities. Ageing and maturing are done in the old way, in oak barrels from the Limousin (for tannin) and the Allier (for flavours and perfumes), renewed by a third each year.
After bottling, following about 12 months of ageing — depending on the structure of the vintage —, the wine rests in an underground cellar, where it lies awaiting sale.
Through a qualitative and quantitative selection, only wines from vines aged 10 to 25 years, aged in barrels of one or two wines, will bear the name Mayne-Blanc (cuvée tradition).
In addition, a special cuvée whose wine comes from old vines (25 to 45 years) is made. This, aged in new barrels for about a year, will also bear the name Château Mayne-Blanc (cuvée Saint-Vincent).
All of these productions represent an annual average of 80,000 bottles; the rest is sold to the trade.
Thus, Château Mayne-Blanc displays all the characteristics of the wines of the Saint-Émilionnais: fine colour, generosity, fullness of flavour, pleasant bouquet and above all a perfect balance that ensures long ageing. Qualities recognised and rewarded by numerous gold and silver medals at the Concours Général in Paris.
The year 2008 saw the arrival of three rotating foudres in which the grapes of the oldest plot (60 years) are vinified. Grape selection is the unique vinification method allowing the creation of L’essentiel de Mayne-Blanc, a cuvée produced only in the best years (1,000 to 2,000 bottles).
M. Boncheau also runs a 6-hectare vineyard in the neighbouring commune of Abzac, which produces about thirty barrels of red Bordeaux under the name Château Julien. If the occasion arises, do not fail to visit and spend a pleasant moment in the company of a member of the Boncheau family, who will welcome you with simplicity and share with you his passion for the vine and wine.
