Château Lespault-Martillac is one of the oldest crus of Martillac, already used for vines in Roman times. It is perched on a magnificent gravel rise overlooking the commune. The freshly restored cellars and the main building, an 18th-century manor house, lie at the heart of this small vineyard, planted mostly with old Merlot of low, high-quality yields.
Since the 2009 vintage, the Jean-Claude Bolleau family, the owners, have entrusted the running of the vineyard to Domaine de Chevalier, Grand Cru Classé de Graves.
Olivier Bernard and his team have set about making this cru, with its exceptional potential, one of the jewels of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. To achieve this, the working methods now applied and the technical means deployed are those of the greatest crus: dynamic soil work, ploughing, sustainable pest management, plot selections, hand harvesting, sorting tables, filling of vats of 50 to 80 hl by gravity, moderate extractions, malolactic fermentation and barrel ageing on lees…
Through its blend (65% Merlot) and its morphology owing to the terroir, this wine is the “Pomerol” of Pessac-Léognan.
