The estate

In brief

The Goulée vineyard is located in the northern Médoc at Port de Goulée and Jau-Dignac-et-Loirac. It extends over a hill facing the Gironde estuary.
Goulée, which was once an island surrounded by the waters of the estuary, benefits from a terroir of deep gravel worthy of the best Grands Crus and is vinified as such by the Cos d’Estournel team.
The average planting density of the vineyard goes hand in hand with a high trellising in order to obtain optimal photosynthesis.
The Goulée vineyard enjoys an extraordinary temperate climate in which the two great grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, grow in the best conditions. Indeed, the geographical location of Goulée, close to the Atlantic Ocean (18 km away against 30 km for Pauillac), combined with the incredible width of the estuary (12 km at Goulée against 3 km near Pauillac), gives the Goulée vines exceptional coolness in summer and great mildness in winter and spring.
It is this particularity of the climate that gives the Goulée wine a fruity character that is reminiscent of the style of New World wines.
