The estate

In brief

With an area of 40 hectares, the Château de France vineyard extends over one of the highest hillsides of the commune of Léognan, one of the most renowned in the Graves de Pessac-Léognan region. Adjoining Fieuzal, its most favourable exposure, the excellent make-up of its soil and the judicious choice of grape varieties contribute to obtaining a harvest of very high quality.
The estate was bought in 1971 by Bernard Thomassin, who came from the world of beet distillation in the Paris region. Arnaud, his son, took over the estate in 1994 and vinified his first harvest in 1996. The Thomassin family is among the oldest owners of the appellation.
Following a fire in 2011, the vat room was completely rebuilt. The cellars, remarkably fitted out in recent times, allow perfect vinification and conservation of the wines.
This vineyard produces about 165 barrels of a red wine of very great finesse of taste and delicate bouquet, capable of satisfying the most discerning gourmets, and for this reason able to be compared with the best. It should be noted that numerous awards have rightly recognised the qualities of the wines of Château de France, whose name is due to that of the place where the house is built. The white wine is now also recognised for its great quality and finesse.
Château de France is part of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux.
