The estate

In brief

At the time the Belleyme map appeared (1762), Cormey was surrounded by vines and certainly formed part of the Figeac estate, which covered 200 hectares.
In our first edition (1850), as well as in the third (1874), Cormey appears among the 100, then the 80, properties listed. The same is true in all editions up to 1900, when the property was still cited among the best crus of Saint-Émilion.
A period of decline then followed. In 1940, René Moreaud bought Château Cormeil-Figeac in a sorry state. He rebuilt the vineyard and from 1950 produced a wine of great quality, much sought after for export by the Libourne and Bordeaux négociants. From father to son, René, Robert and Richard succeeded one another, and since 1 January 2012 it has been Victor Moreaud and Coraline Moreaud-McAllan (brother and sister) who represent the fourth generation at the helm of the estate.
The technical assets of this vineyard are many: a very early-ripening terroir in the commune of Saint-Émilion, 500 metres from the Pomerol appellation, a vineyard in a single block allowing very good technical control, an orientation on a long, due-south slope, naturally drained and outside the hail corridors, and a location in an open, well-ventilated area preventing the appearance of fungal diseases.
The wines are long-lived and aged entirely in new barrels. The grapes come from the estate’s oldest Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines.
Château Cormeil-Figeac, with its traditional label, is the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru par excellence. The wines are powerful, rich in bouquet and generous, with aromas of cedar and red berries. They carry the signature and history of this family and will enhance your great meals. Château Cormeil-Figeac will add a touch of elegance and authenticity to your refined dishes such as roast poultry, butcher’s cuts, a platter of mild cheeses…
The Moreaud family is very attached to the independence of its sales, through direct sales without intermediaries, straight to distributors in France and all over the world. The wines are very successful, notably throughout Europe, in Canada, Japan, China and the U.S.A.
