Château Cantelys is an estate of about twenty hectares, of which 15 hectares are red vines. The estate is located in the commune of Martillac, about fifteen kilometres south-west of Bordeaux, in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan AOC.
This estate was created by Dominique Lurton in 1987-1988, when he began planting the vineyard. He developed the estate until 1994, when he ceded it to Daniel and Florence Cathiard. The estate then had most of its vines as well as its buildings.
Daniel and Florence Cathiard have since continued the development of the estate and have instilled a quality-driven policy in the management of the vineyard as well as in the approach to vinification and ageing. With their talented team, they bring to Château Cantelys the same care and the same obsession with detail enjoyed by their neighbouring estate, Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Grand Cru Classé de Graves.
Château Cantelys is among the fine terroirs of the appellation. In two decades its wines have risen among the successes of Pessac-Léognan with professional tasters through good scores, and with traders through sustained sales, notably for export to China, the United Kingdom, Japan, Taiwan and Scandinavia.
