Château Berthenon

Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux • 37 HA

The estate

In brief

This very old vineyard already appeared in the “Féret” of 1868 and was listed as a Premier Cru Bourgeois of the Blayais. This distinction had been obtained, among other reasons, because of the quality of the soils (clay-limestone terroir) and the choice of grape varieties (70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet).
A family estate handed down over three generations, the Château Berthenon vineyard now extends over 32 ha. It produces supple, ample and structured red wines, saignée rosés, clairet, as well as dry, fruity whites from Sauvignon varieties.
Maintaining the quality of the wines has remained the Ponz family’s first concern, as shown by the many awards won at various competitions. The product range grows from year to year; the creation and personalisation of the packaging give even more importance to the quality of the wines made in the family tradition.
