Château d’Aiguilhe

Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux • 106 HA

The estate

In brief

Château d’Aiguilhe, an estate of nearly 110 hectares, gave its name to the commune of Saint-Philippe-d’Aiguille, located on the highest hillsides running along the right bank of the Dordogne from Saint-Émilion to Castillon-La-Bataille, in a renowned wine region rich in archaeology and history.
This very ancient estate, undoubtedly one of the oldest in the Bordeaux region, a centrepiece of the defensive system set up by the kings of England to protect their possessions in Guyenne, was long a stake between the French armies and the Anglo-Bordeaux troops.
From its tumultuous past were to be born privileged trading relations with the countries of northern Europe. From the 14th century, the wines of Château d’Aiguilhe, delivered to the port of Castillon, left for England, Holland and the ports of the Hanseatic League.
