The estate

In brief

The origin of Château Laroque dates from the distant time of the Anglo-Norman invasion. The only witness to this feudal past, a powerful 14th-century tower was preserved when the château was rebuilt in the 17th century. This once-prestigious estate nevertheless gradually fell into disuse in the early 20th century, a victim of successive wars and crises.
Its wine activity disappeared and nothing seemed to predict a brilliant future for it.
Its acquisition by the Beaumartin family in 1935 marked the beginning of an ambitious challenge. In 1962, 40 ha of vines were replanted. In 1982, Bruno Sainson became manager of the estate and undertook, with his team, a genuine quest for excellence. Xavier Beaumartin took the helm of the estate in 2004, a tangible sign of the family attachment and investment that have enabled Château Laroque to regain all the lustre of its historic prestige.
The success of this journey is also due to the performance and stability of the distribution network, the exclusive partner of Château Laroque for more than three decades.
Raised and monitored, sorted, analysed and tasted, the grapes are picked by hand. The wine is aged in oak casks (half renewed every year). Each barrel is the subject of a scored tasting and only the best of them will take part in the ageing of Château Laroque. Such a level of demand is fully justified by the remarkable personality of Château Laroque. Rich, complex and powerful, this long-lived wine remains faithful to the authentic tradition of the greatest Saint-Émilions.
At present, Château Laroque is marketed exclusively by the Grands Chais de France group.
Château Laroque joined the group of the Grands Crus Classés of Saint-Émilion from the 1996 vintage on 27 hectares; the other hectares are vinified and aged in a specific cellar. Since 2012, the land base of the Grand Cru Classé has increased to 30 hectares.
