Superbly situated on the privileged slope overlooking the Gironde, this very old Médoc cru has an exceptional terroir made up of clayey, dry Garonne gravel.
After belonging to the Vicomte de Roussy and the de Parouty family, this fine estate was acquired in 1972 by the present company, which also owns the Château Plantey de la Croix vineyard, whose operation is attached to that of Château Verdignan.
The privileged position of this fine wine estate, practically in a single block, on the eastern slope of this rich chain of Haut-Médoc hillsides, and the choice of grape varieties combined with classic rootstocks, contribute to the production of a quality harvest.
It is vinified in respect of tradition. A modern vat room, through perfect control of temperatures, makes it possible to succeed with the cuvées, even in “delicate” years.
Wines for laying down, the wines of Verdignan, with tannins that are both firm and round, reveal on the palate a rich and harmonious whole that leaves the taster with a sensation of balance and fullness.
A second wine, mainly from young vines, is presented under the name Château Plantey de La Croix.
