The estate

In brief

It was in 1564 that château “La Doys” first appeared in writing, but it was not until the 18th century that the Barre family led it to the heights. It was cited among the best wines of Saint-Estèphe in the 1850 edition of Cocks and Féret and was subsequently classified, in 1932, as Cru Bourgeois Supérieur. Hit by economic and wine-trade crises, the vineyard was unfortunately scattered over the course of the 20th century.
Christian Thiéblot acquired the property in 1989 and renamed the estate in honour of his wife, Lilian, with the wish of raising the wines to the highest level. Deeply committed to the property, they bought many plots and created modern infrastructure. Thus two landmark vintages of Lilian Ladouys came into being: 1989 and 1990.
Following financial difficulties, they sold the property in 1995 to the bank Natixis.
In 2008, attracted by the potential of this property, Jacky and Françoise Lorenzetti bought château Lilian Ladouys with the ambition of restoring its former lustre. An immense amount of groundwork was then undertaken: a land consolidation made it possible to reduce the fragmentation of Lilian Ladouys and to refocus on the best terroirs. Sustainable cultivation practices, regular monitoring of berry ripening, harvest dates staggered over time for ideal ripeness, refined vinification methods and respectful, controlled ageing were also introduced. Everything is thus in place to enhance an exceptional terroir and bring Lilian Ladouys among the references of the appellation.
