The estate

In brief

Château Granins-Grand-Poujeaux is a family estate comprising some fifteen hectares of “vine land”, of which 13 hectares are currently in production.
Two thirds of the vineyard are located between Château Maucaillou and Château Poujeaux on the fine gravel typical of the Grand Poujeaux terroir, in the commune of Moulis.
This cru was created in 1928 by M. Édouard Batailley, Chevalier du Mérite Agricole. At that time, it bore the name Château Peyrodon. Enlarged by the acquisition of vines from Château Granins (Cru Bourgeois in the 1932 classification), it then took the name Château Tour-Granins.
The name Granins already existed in the wine registers of the beginning of the century, and in 1922 Charles Féret said of it: “Remarkable for its fine upkeep, the estate produces mellow wines highly appreciated and much sought after in the trade”.
In 1983, M. André Batailley took over part of this property created by his father and registered the name Granins-Grand-Poujeaux.
Ten years later, M. André Batailley went into partnership with his children. The original estate was reunited by taking on the lease of the farm of his sister, Madame Telley. Thus S.C.E.A. Granins-Grand-Poujeaux can once again use the name Château Tour Granins.
The wines of S.C.E.A. Granins-Grand-Poujeaux regularly win awards. Among these, let us mention those granted at the agricultural competitions of Bordeaux or Paris: silver medals for the 1995, 1999 and 2008 vintages and gold for 1998, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009.
