The estate

In brief

Château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux owes its name on the one hand to M. Dutruch, who founded this growth around 1850, and on the other to the location of its vineyard at Grand Poujeaux, a hamlet of Moulis-en-Médoc renowned for the quality of the wines that come from it. The vines of château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux are indeed located on the gravel rise (Garonne gravel) of Grand Poujeaux. Thanks to this exceptional terroir and the excellence of its wines, château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux is one of the reference properties of the Moulis en Médoc AOC. Recognised as Cru Bourgeois Supérieur from the official classification of 1932, château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux was even raised to the rank of Grand Bourgeois Exceptionnel in the unofficial ranking drawn up within the Crus Bourgeois syndicate on 3 March 1966.
In 1967, château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux was bought by François Cordonnier, from a family that had worked in wine trading and brokerage for several generations.
Aided by the experience and know-how acquired in numerous French vineyards, among them château de Chenonceau, of which he was steward for several years, François Cordonnier has given the vinification of the wines of château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux his own personality, all power and elegance.
Ten years later, in 1977, his brother Pierre expressed this family passion for wine by going into production himself: he bought château Anthonic, Cru Bourgeois in Moulis en Médoc.
Since 1993, Jean-Baptiste Cordonnier, Pierre’s son, has managed the two family properties: château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux and château Anthonic.
A graduate agronomist engineer in 1991, it was, surprisingly, in Africa, where he managed a farm for two years, that he discovered his passion for vineyard management!
Since then, Jean-Baptiste Cordonnier has done everything to bring out the full potential of the properties entrusted to him: extremely rigorous work in the vineyard to enhance the terroir; vinification that respects the tradition of the great wines of the Médoc while remaining at the forefront of technical innovation; many investments to enlarge the properties and their buildings; and increasingly extensive diversification of the distribution of their wines around the world.
Such passions often being contagious, his wife Nathalie, from the world of legal academia, has assisted him in managing the properties since 1999.
After 20 years at the head of the two estates, their ambition to raise their wines to the rank of the best references is still intact.
