However far back one goes in the history of the Médoc, vine plantings can be found on old maps at the site of Hanteillan (formerly Anteilhan).
It is even mentioned in the Bull of Pope Alexander III, among the possessions of the Abbey of Vertheuil in 1179.
More recently, our 1868 edition cites Hanteillan among the good crus of the Haut-Médoc, with a production of 100 to 140 tonneaux of a wine noted for its fine colour and roundness.
Château Hanteillan, located on the boundary between the communes of Saint-Estèphe and Pauillac, is a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the Haut-Médoc appellation area. Its present area is 82 hectares of vines, following the purchase of part of the lands of Château Larrivaux, adjoining the property.
Completely renovated in recent years, the vat room with its stainless steel vats, the cellar and the rest of the estate buildings are in keeping with this wine estate, which is resolutely turned towards the future while preserving the essence of the old traditions.
Representing 500 tonneaux each year, the whole harvest is bottled at the château.
