The lordship of Lamarque was so named because it was a border “march” of Guyenne. The fortified castle had to defend Médoc territory against Viking invasions coming up the Gironde, and later endured the harsh assaults of the Hundred Years’ War.
Thalésie de Lamarque owned the estate in 1247. She left the memory of an endearing and happy personality. She left her mark on the château and its nascent vineyard. This presence can still be felt, on evenings of strong wind, through the machicolations… this presence is in the soul of the vineyard.
It accompanies the work and talent of the people, ensures the continuity of its superb terroir and gives its wines brilliance, freshness and elegance, sensuality and persistence.
Thalésie d’Everlange, granddaughter of Marie-Hélène and Pierre-Gilles, 763 years later, embodies today the reverence and fidelity to the values sealed in the “gravel”.
